Organized by the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg (DHBW) in Germany, it brings together cycling enthusiasts from different DHBW campuses for a multi-day bikepacking adventure. The tour spans several days, covering a designated route that includes various DHBW campuses and scenic locations. Participants ride their bicycles, exploring different regions, and enjoying the camaraderie and energetic atmosphere of the event. The Tour de DHBW combines the passion for cycling with the spirit of community and promotes fitness, teamwork, and the spirit of adventure among the participants. Join me as I recount the unforgettable moments, captivating scenery, and the infectious energy that made this bikepacking adventure truly remarkable.

Day 01: Mannheim to Heilbronn, via Mosbach

Our cycling adventure kicked off at DHBW Mannheim, where we gathered with excitement and anticipation. The atmosphere was buzzing as Principal Prof. Dr. Nagler from DHBW Mannheim personally greeted us, setting the stage for an unforgettable journey. With the sun shining above us and the wind at our backs, we embarked on the first leg of our Tour de DHBW.

The quickest group: 120km with a 30kph average

Our journey took us on an exhilarating 125-kilometer ride from Mannheim to Heilbronn, with a captivating stop in the charming town of Mosbach. Pedaling through rolling hills, lush vineyards, and quaint countryside, the route treated us to a visual feast at every turn. The camaraderie among fellow cyclists was palpable, as we encouraged and motivated each other to conquer the challenging terrain. Along the way, I couldn’t resist capturing the beauty from above, courtesy of my trusty drone, which added a touch of awe-inspiring perspective to the journey.

Day 02: Heilbronn to Heidenheim

Continuing our adventure, we embarked on a thrilling 170-kilometer stretch from Heilbronn to Heidenheim. Riding from Heilbronn to Stuttgart, we were joined by a special guest: Martina Klärle, the president of the DHBW. Her presence added an extra spark of enthusiasm as we cycled through the picturesque landscapes, sharing stories and laughter along the way. Battling the din of traffic in Stuttgart, we continued our adventure towards Heidenheim. This time joined by Prof. Dr. Dirk Reichardt, part of the Acting Management of the Zentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz (Center for Artificial Intelligence), adding his expertise and camaraderie to the ride.

This leg treated us to a perfect balance of challenging climbs and awe-inspiring descents, taking us through verdant landscapes and captivating vistas. The camaraderie among riders grew stronger with each passing kilometer, as we formed lasting friendships and shared in the triumphs of conquering the demanding route. The energy among the riders was contagious, fueled by the shared passion for cycling and the sheer joy of exploration. As we conquered each milestone, the scenic views and the buzzing excitement pushed us to new heights. With my drone hovering above, capturing the dynamic group in action, the memories created on this leg will forever be etched in my mind.

Day 03: Heidenheim to Ravensburg

The third day greeted us with renewed vigor as we embarked on a 135-kilometer ride from Heidenheim to Ravensburg. Under clear skies and with the sun on our faces, we pedaled through a stunning backdrop of bright yellow rapeseed fields and the gently rolling landscape of Upper Swabia. The beauty of nature embraced us as we rode, infusing each moment with a sense of awe and tranquility. The vibrant colors and serene surroundings served as a reminder of the hidden gems that await those who venture beyond the beaten path.

A few kilometers into the ride, an unexpected challenge presented itself. I found myself plagued with knee problems that hindered my speed, forcing me to adjust my pace and ride at a more comfortable rhythm. Despite the discomfort, I was determined not to let it dampen my spirits or slow me down entirely.

As the group set off towards Ravensburg, I settled into a steady rhythm, allowing the breathtaking scenery to provide a much-needed distraction. Riding along the banks of the majestic river Danube in Ulm, I marveled at the tranquil beauty that surrounded me. The soothing sound of water flowing and the gentle breeze against my face served as a reminder of the immense power of nature to heal and inspire.

With each pedal stroke, I pushed through the pain, finding solace in the beauty that enveloped me. It was a test of both physical and mental strength, a reminder that perseverance and determination can overcome any obstacle. The camaraderie and support of my fellow riders, who cheered me on and offered words of encouragement, further fueled my resolve.

As I finally arrived in Ravensburg, a wave of relief and triumph washed over me. The joy of completing the day’s journey, despite the challenges I faced, was immeasurable. It was a reminder that the true essence of the Tour de DHBW lay not only in the destination but in the journey itself—the moments of growth, resilience, and self-discovery that unfolded along the way.

Day 04: Ravensburg to Friedrichshafen - The Grand Finale

On the final day of this epic cycling adventure, we embarked on a shorter 40-kilometer ride from Ravensburg to Friedrichshafen, a picturesque town nestled on the shores of Lake Constance. As I embarked on the last stretch of the ride, I noticed an uncomfortable twinge in my knees, a reminder of the previous day’s struggles. Despite the 25-degree weather, I decided to don leg warmers, a simple yet effective accessory that would provide the necessary compression and warmth throughout the ride. It was a small adjustment, but one that would make a world of difference. As I pedaled forward, I could feel the comforting embrace of the leg warmers, their gentle compression easing the strain on my knees. The warmth they provided not only kept me comfortable in the cool morning air but also contributed to improved blood circulation and reduced muscle fatigue.

With each passing kilometer, I marveled at the positive impact of this seemingly minor choice. The pain that had plagued me the previous day gradually subsided, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the final leg of our adventure. The picturesque landscapes of Friedrichshafen and the anticipation of reaching our destination near Lake Constance fueled my determination.

My drone took flight once more, capturing the final moments of our incredible journey, encapsulating the spirit of triumph and unity that defined the Tour de DHBW.

As our journey neared its end, we approached Friedrichshafen with a mix of accomplishment and bittersweet anticipation. The final stretch was a culmination of our physical and mental endurance, a testament to our unwavering determination. Upon our arrival, we were met with a warm welcome from two AStA representatives, the generous sponsors of our tour. Additionally, the professor overseeing the project greeted us with a sense of pride and satisfaction. It was a moment of celebration, acknowledging the achievements and bonds forged throughout the Tour de DHBW.
